New from TOPPING: Centaurus Fully-Balanced R2R DAC
December 10, 2024TOPPING Centaurus Fully-balanced R2R DAC
The TOPPING Centaurus is here, and it’s a huge deal. As TOPPING’s first fully balanced R2R DAC, it combines a revered approach to digital-to-analog conversion with modern features that make it both powerful and flexible. Whether you're an audiophile chasing warmth and detail or someone looking to explore the R2R world, the Centaurus offers a TOPPING's classic mix of precision and ease of use.
Fully balanced 8-channel R2R architecture
The show stopping feature of the Centaurus is an 8-channel R2R (resistor-to-resistor) DAC architecture, developed with HOLO Audio. This design processes audio using eight resistor networks to deliver exceptional accuracy and dynamic range. One side of the DAC is optimized for DSD (Direct Stream Digital) decoding, using innovative technology to handle high-resolution audio formats. The other side is built for PCM (Pulse Code Modulation), utilizing the classic R2R method to provide that signature warmth and rich harmonic detail. A CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) manages it all, ensuring smooth, accurate playback for everything you listen to.
Three sampling modes
The Centaurus features three sampling modes: NOS (Non-Oversampling), OS (Oversampling), and Best.
- NOS Mode preserves the original characteristics of your audio, bypassing oversampling for a more natural sound.
- OS Mode applies oversampling to reduce noise and improve clarity.
- Best Mode chooses the optimal settings for a balanced listening experience.
Bluetooth and beyond
Equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 and an advanced QCC5125 chip, the Centaurus supports high-resolution codecs like LDAC, aptX Adaptive, and aptX HD.
Customize your sound
For those who like to fine-tune, the Centaurus includes a 10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ). Adjust frequency, gain, and bandwidth with precision, or import custom curves for specific tracks or genres. Multiple profiles allow you to save your favorite settings and switch effortlessly between them.
Plug-and-play compatibility
The Centaurus is built to work seamlessly with almost any system. Its USB input supports PCM up to 768kHz/32bit and DSD512, while the XMOS XU316 chipset ensures stable performance across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android devices.
