The Moondrop S8 IEM has eight drivers consisting of Sonion 37 series dual drivers with added back volume for the lows, dual Knowles SWFK drivers for the highs, and quad Moondrop's proprietary customized Softears D-MID-B for the mids. It comes with Litz 6N OCC cable and 0.78 mm (2-pin) headphone pin that allows you to switch wires and even makes it compatible with other bluetooth wires in the market.
The S8 masterfully arranges the eight drivers in their respective frequency range through three separate designed sound tube and crossover PCB. This results in a sound signature which has more natural tone, rich details, and a deep relaxed bass.
Apos Audio research what Moondrop had to say on Driver Selection:
For the bass driver, we selected an extra back volume version of the distinguished vented bass receiver, so the diaphragm is more “free to move” compared to the typical closed balanced armature unit while still less distorted than normal vented drivers. This gives S8 a deep bass response, like that of dynamic driver but faster.
Treble is handled by Knowles SWFK. With its relatively low distortion and high cutoff frequency, it provides a flat, smooth and detailed treble tone and results in S8’s eminent treble performance.
We customized our own mid balanced armature driver for the midrange tuning. Compliant with VDSF Target response and ultra low distortion, we improved it with circuitry that focuses on power efficiency and natural sound. You will hear mild tempered vocals with mid-high performance and a more natural tone on the Moondrop S8 as compared to the Moondrop A8.
